Training Materials: Resources for Women Trainers and Learners

This section - which is aimed at both trainers and end users - offers links to resources specifically targeted at women. The resources are divided into the following categories:

"Target audience" under each listing tells you whether the resource is aimed at end-users ("General"), end-users and trainers ("General and Trainers") or only at Trainers. Resources designated as aimed at trainers include, for example, workshop curricula, PowerPoint presentations and worksheets.

Multimedia Gender Training Kit

This gender training kit gives you an opportunity to upgrade your knowledge and skills in the crucial area of gender and development. The kit has 7 modules which cover issues of empowerment, governance, gender sensitive policies, education, and leadership. Each module has lessons and assessments before going on to the next module. You must sign up at the learning centre to receive the kit's modules.

Gender and Training: Mainstreaming gender equality and the planning, realisation, and evaluation of training programmes

Based on the concept of "didactics that promote gender equality", manual prepared by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation for its staff and consultants, the manual defines key terms and practical tips for being gender aware in the workplace. It encourages trainers to examine content, work forms and methods, their own gender knowledge, language and communication.

Gender Training Wiki

INSTRAW has launched a wiki for compiling events, institutions and materials regarding gender training. Available in Spanish and English, and increasingly, French, the wiki is full of links to handbooks, indicators, and tips on gender training with a wide range of content areas including poverty, leadership, environment, and violence against women. Of particular interest for ItrainOnline users are the handbooks regarding ICTs and gender and media, although
trainers will find the site very useful overall.

This on line toolkit developed by Trish Williams for the Commonwealth Press Union is a good resource for any journalist or communicator, and one to keep in mind if your organisation hosts an interactive news site. It offers an overview of basic gender issues and sexist terms, statistics, and further gender resources. Williams, a media consultant, developed the tool because journalists play such an important role in forming society opinion. The toolkit includes brief exercises to help journalists reflect on their own stereotypes, alternatives to sexist terminology, and underlines the responsibility of media regarding gender issues.
